Playing this game without VR will be bad I'm afraid. Half Life Alyx is easily one of my top games but without VR it wouldn't be good and levels like Jeff just wouldn't work with the traditional keyboard and mouse like presented in the video. The games encounters would also be far too easy with a keyboard and mouse as well.
And honestly? A non-VR version would be 2 hours long. If you already have a PC that will run Alyx's specs (expensive in its own right) I'd check reviews on how HL:A works on an occulus quest 2. If you can get 90% of the game's experience while saving $700 on a headset/controls that seems worth it for a lifelong Half Life fan.

Learn how to play the first new Half-Life game in over a decade with a mouse and keyboard, using a mod that locks the character's arms out in front. The mod is not easy to use or elegant, and you should still consider buying a VR headset for the best experience.

Thank you!!!!! No, it will not run right or run at all. Probably not run at all. I tried running vr on a gtx 780 for fun, it was frames. It couldn't handle vr well at all. I'd say minimum for running ok vr is gtx 960. But alyx requires gtx 1060, don't skimp out on video card, alyx just from screen shots, looks like it needs a good video card. Don't forget, you can still play the Half-Life collection free on Steam until Alyx comes out on Steam, and the full and final version of Black Mesa has just come out as well (which, if you're anything like Graham, you can also mod so you can play Half-Life 1 in VR). But as you’d expect, there’s now an unofficial mod that promises to let you play through all of Half-Life: Alyx using just your mouse and keyboard — no headset required.
